BARBED WIRE Song lyric 126

Creatures entangled in a fence, Fugitives from broken hearts
Powerless to struggle free, Cannot flee form pain and sorrow
While the pursuit becomes intense, Refugees from remoter parts -:
Predators forced them all to flee Escapologists of tomorrow.
Man made boundaries to protect Placing deterrents in the way,
The fabric of our society, Warding off encroaching cars,
Fences that contractors erect, Indifferent to injuries each day,
Barbed wire marks a sense of propriety. Barbed wire leaves legacies of
Wild doesn’t mean ferocious. scars.
Many species are placid and docile,
To natives, money men are precocious,
Destroying the environment; so hostile.
Troops barricaded in battle zones,
Surrounded by hostility.
Some may never make old bones. Copyright 1992
Others admit to their futility. Arthur J.P. Strand
Captured, enslaved and interned,
Escape is their main ambition. Song lyric 126
There’s nothing else with which they’re concerned
Barbed wire is the worst inhibition.

BLACK SHEEP Song lyric 105

Everything you do goes wrong. You’re clumsy.
Everything you say offends. You’re clumsy.
Your brothers and sisters say you’ve got two left feet.
You blunder and dither and upset everyone you meet.

‘Cos you’re the black sheep.

Anything you think is dumb. You’re stupid.
Anything you touch just breaks. You’re stupid.
Your colleagues and friends know that your so careless.
You squander your chances and ruin your road to success.

‘Cos you’re the black sheep.

BONEGRINDER. Song lyric 094

You’re not mentioned in the index.
Your name’s left out of any list.
It’s a well known fact that you’ve jaws of steel.
All retreat as you clench your iron fist.

Bonegrinder, weightlifter.
Champion wrestler, circus strongman,
You’re a Pathfinder,
Known as bone grinder.

You’ve no cash in your empty wallet,
Credit cards mean the promised, land,
Since no-one doubts your integrity,
All fear you now you’ve gained the upper hand.

If you had the stamina
To compete in a marathon road race
Or become the strongest contestant
Drawn in a tournament, you’d win first place.

BREVITY OF EVENTS Song lyric 135

An interview that didn’t take long,
An appointment that nearly went wrong,
An appearance that seemed undignified,
This brevity of events has signified.

A prize fight that lasted two rounds,
A slim-down that shed few pounds,
A religious fervour for obscenities
Stem from an inadequate lack of amenities.

Short-term, an occasional trip without remorse,
Part-time, occupational therapy course,
They’ll squeeze extras in between priorities.
Brief moments are convenient for minorities.

BURGLAR BILLY BROWN Song lyric 064

Every body here knows Burglar Billy Brown.
They see his face every day in town

He raided a bank and absconded with some cash.
Local journalists made the raid a front-page splash.
He stole a limousine and he wrecked it in a chase.
Now everybody’s here in court just to hear his case.

The prosecution witnesses testified on oath.
The defence council cross-questioned both
The jury retired and returned a verdict of guilt.
The judge passed sentence, mercy, no blood was spilt

Billy’s woman walks the streets at night.
She’s unaware of Burglar Billy’s plight.

Billy went to prison punished for his crime.
He won’t be back again for a long, long time
He’ll spend the rest of his life on social security,
Finally dying in total obscurity.
